Romania and U.S. firm Critical Metals to explore rare earth facility using Greenland concentrate, backed by EU funds.
Romania and U.S. company Critical Metals have signed a non-binding agreement to explore building a rare earth processing facility in Feldioara, leveraging concentrate from Greenland’s Tanbreez deposit.
The project, backed by the EU’s 3.5 billion euro support package for critical minerals, aims to reduce Europe’s reliance on China by creating a Western-aligned supply chain for high-performance magnets used in defense, clean energy, and tech.
If realized, it would position Romania as a key hub for rare earth processing.
The joint venture remains in early stages, with technical and commercial evaluations underway.
