Oklahoma to host Dawn Aerospace’s 2027 suborbital spaceplane launch with new hangar and research access.
Oklahoma is moving forward with plans to host Dawn Aerospace’s Mk-II Aurora spaceplane at its Burns Flat air and space port, becoming the first U.S. site for the uncrewed, suborbital vehicle set to launch in 2027.
The state approved $490,900 to design a dedicated spacecraft hangar with facilities for operations, research, and public viewing, with construction expected to begin in 2026 and finish by mid-2027.
The project follows a $17 million agreement with Dawn Aerospace and includes a $160,000 allocation for a statewide space industry study to guide future growth.
The first 100 flights will offer free access to Oklahoma-based researchers through a competitive process, while remaining missions will be available commercially.
The initiative supports Oklahoma’s broader effort to expand its aerospace sector, which contributes nearly $44 billion annually and supports over 206,000 jobs.
