A Niagara College student's silver fox photo, taken during a walk, wins top honor in Canadian Geographic’s 2025 wildlife competition.
A silver fox photo by William Mitchell, a Niagara College photography student from St. Catharines, has been selected for Canadian Geographic’s 2025 wildlife photography competition collector’s edition, one of 98 images chosen from over 10,000 submissions.
Captured during a woodland walk, the image shows the fox moments after taking a squirrel, praised for its intimacy, composition, and striking contrast.
Mitchell, who has long sought to photograph the elusive animal, credited his professors, including Grace Smith and the late Jerry Zolner, for supporting his passion.
The recognition highlights both his talent and the quality of Niagara College’s program.
