Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Airport achieved global net-zero carbon status, becoming the first in India with top environmental and customer experience honors.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai has achieved Level 5 accreditation under the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme, the highest global recognition for carbon management, confirming net-zero emissions for Scope 1 and 2.
The airport, operated by Mumbai International Airport Limited, has eliminated operational emissions through 100% renewable electricity since 2022, full electrification of ground vehicles, and energy efficiency upgrades.
It has reduced Scope 1 and 2 emissions by over 98% since 2022 and has a validated plan to reach net-zero Scope 3 emissions by 2050.
CSMIA is now one of only 30 airports worldwide—and four in India—with Level 5 status, and the first in India to also earn Level 5 for customer experience.
