LA County sues four oil firms over 200 unsafe, idle wells in Inglewood, citing health risks and cleanup costs.
Los Angeles County has sued four oil companies—Sentinel Peak, Freeport-McMoRan, Plains Resources, and Chevron—over more than 200 unsealed, idle wells in the Inglewood Oil Field, alleging they pose health risks from chemical leaks and could burden taxpayers with cleanup costs.
The lawsuit, part of a broader push to phase out urban drilling, claims the companies failed to properly decommission wells despite years of legal delays.
While Sentinel Peak dismissed the claims as baseless, the others have not responded.
