India's Supreme Court expands SIT probe into NOIDA land fraud, targeting past officials and extending deadline.
The Supreme Court of India has expanded the Special Investigation Team's probe into alleged land compensation fraud in NOIDA, directing it to examine past CEOs and senior officials from the last 10 to 15 years.
The court extended the SIT’s deadline by two months, stressing that farmers receiving higher payments will not be penalized, as the investigation targets official misconduct, not landowners.
The probe, launched in August, focuses on 20 cases of inflated compensation and financial records of officials and beneficiaries.
The court also mandated the appointment of a Chief Vigilance Officer from the IPS or CAG cadre and required a status report from the SIT.
