A former WSU fraternity house, vacated after hazing allegations, now houses homeless families through a nonprofit program.
A former Theta Chi fraternity house at Washington State University, vacated after the group lost university recognition due to hazing allegations linked to a student’s suicide, has been converted into a homeless shelter by nonprofit Family Promise.
The organization moved into the 10,000-square-foot building in spring 2025, doubling its capacity to serve eight families and launching an interim housing program offering on-site living and support.
While not intended as a permanent home, the space meets growing needs, with strong community backing and cooperation from the university.
