Eleven-year-old Carmela Chillery-Watson has become the youngest person ever to receive an MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours, recognized for leading over 25 fundraising campaigns for Muscular Dystrophy UK, raising more than £400,000.
Diagnosed with a rare muscle-wasting condition at age three, she was honored for her efforts to support her community.
Though the government cannot confirm she is the youngest recipient due to incomplete records, she was formally invested at Windsor Castle, where she met the Prince of Wales.
Also honored was 73-year-old Paralympic athlete Monica Vaughan, who received an OBE for her services to sport.
