Colorado enforces right-lane-only rules for big trucks on key I-70 stretches to boost safety and traffic flow.
Colorado has started enforcing left-lane restrictions for large trucks and semitrailers on high-risk I-70 segments near Georgetown, the Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnels, Vail Pass, and Glenwood Canyon.
The rule, under 2024’s Senate Bill 100, requires commercial vehicles to stay in the right lane unless passing, aiming to improve traffic flow, reduce crashes, and prevent closures during winter storms.
New signage and lane markings are in place, and the Colorado State Patrol is enforcing the rule with $100 fines and four license points for violations.
Officials say the measure supports de-icing efforts by maintaining predictable traffic patterns.
