BYD’s rugged Ti 7 SUV hit 50,000 pre-sales in 80 days and is being considered for an Australian launch.
BYD’s Ti 7, a large, rugged plug-in hybrid SUV from its Fangchengbao sub-brand in China, has achieved 50,000 pre-sales in 80 days and sold 37,405 units in November. The five-meter-long vehicle, styled like the Land Rover Defender, features a monocoque chassis, 600mm wading depth, and a plug-in hybrid system with a 1.5-liter engine and dual electric motors, offering up to 200 km of electric range under Chinese testing. BYD Australia’s COO has confirmed the company is actively considering a local launch, supported by the Ti 7’s right-hand-drive debut at the Bangkok Motor Show, signaling regional expansion. The vehicle is expected to compete with models like the Hyundai Santa Fe and Toyota LandCruiser Prado. BYD continues expanding in Australia with the Atto 1 and Atto 2 already available, and the Sealion 5 PHEV and Sealion 8 PHEV set for 2026, while its luxury Denza brand has introduced the B5 and B8 as premium off-road rivals.
