RCMP conducted a provincewide impaired driving crackdown on December 6, part of the "Light Up the Province" initiative, with 74 check stops resulting in 190 driving prohibitions and 662 tickets.
Over 52,000 vehicles were checked across B.C., including 13,500 on Vancouver Island, with mandatory alcohol screening identifying impaired drivers who showed no visible signs of intoxication.
A 23-year-old Richmond woman was fined $483 and her vehicle impounded after speeding at 110 km/h, falsely claiming she was rushing home to care for a sick child—later admitting the child was her dog.
On Highway 17, 28 trucks were inspected, nine removed from service, and one driver charged with impaired driving.
The campaign will continue into 2026.
