A 21-year-old woman, identified as Sayyida Nafeesa Zulfikar, died in a car accident on Melbourne’s Hume Highway on December 9, 2025, after a fallen utility pole struck her vehicle.
The crash followed a truck collision with a red sedan, causing the pole to collapse.
She was the driver of a silver Honda and was pronounced dead at the scene from head injuries.
Her father, Zulfikar Mohamad Shariff, a former Singaporean ISA detainee, confirmed her identity and described her as kind and dedicated, noting she was on her way to work as an administrative officer at MyCollege, an Islamic college.
The truck driver was hospitalized with injuries, while the red sedan occupants were unharmed.
Authorities called the incident a “freak crash.” Zulfikar, who had his social media accounts suspended in November 2025 over posts deemed to incite discord, shared his grief publicly.
The woman’s funeral was scheduled for December 10.
