A 14-year-old girl in Niagara Falls got two years’ probation for arson after lighting a toilet paper in a hotel restroom, sparking a fire; no one was hurt.
A 14-year-old girl in Niagara Falls was placed on two years’ probation after pleading guilty to arson following a February fire at a hotel caused by a lit toilet paper in a washroom. Surveillance showed her and two other teens entering the restroom; she was found with lighters, a hotel card, and a knife. Racial slurs were carved into the walls. No injuries occurred, and she had no prior record or substance involvement. She avoided jail and was barred from contacting the other two youths, one of whom also pleaded guilty to probation, while the third remains in court. The case was heard in St. Catharines, Ontario.
