Utah man cleared after protest shooting; says he was wrongly jailed and shot by volunteer.
Arturo Gamboa, a Utah man arrested after a June 14, 2025, protest shooting that killed Afa Ah Loo, has spoken out after being cleared of charges.
He said he carried an unloaded rifle to peacefully exercise his constitutional rights and was shot by safety volunteer Matthew Scott Alder, who was charged with manslaughter.
Gamboa spent six days in jail, restrained and injured, and criticized the media and authorities for treating him as a suspect despite no evidence he fired a shot.
He cited racial bias and unequal treatment, noting Alder faced charges while he did not, and expressed condolences to Ah Loo’s family while declining to sue to avoid hindering their potential claim.
