Tamworth gets $6.61M to upgrade flight training facility, boosting pilot education and jobs.
Tamworth has secured $6.61 million in combined NSW government and local council funding to upgrade its International Flight Training facility at Tamworth Airport.
The project, starting after Christmas, will modernize classrooms, flight simulators, air conditioning, and cadet housing to support training 200 cadets annually.
The upgrades aim to strengthen Tamworth’s role as a top pilot training hub in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region, attract international students and airlines, and generate new jobs.
Officials, including SFC Aero’s CEO Joseph Pilo, welcomed the funding, noting benefits for all training providers at the site.
The council is also pursuing federal funds to install solar panels and improve sustainability.
