Scottish artist Nnena Kalu, 59, has won the 2025 Turner Prize for her large-scale abstract installations, including Hanging Sculpture 1–10* in Barcelona and works in Liverpool’s *Conversations* exhibition.
The award, presented in Bradford, recognized her bold, colorful, cocoon-like sculptures and drawings made from layered materials and expressive lines.
Chaired by Tate Britain director Alex Farquharson, the jury praised her work’s scale, composition, and emotional resonance.
Kalu, a resident artist at ActionSpace in London, beat shortlisted artists Rene Matic, Mohammed Sami, and Zadie Xa.
The prize, established in 1984 and honoring J.M.W.
Turner, includes a £25,000 award.
The finalists’ works are on display at Bradford’s Cartwright Hall Art Gallery through February 22, 2026.
The 2026 Turner Prize will be held in Middlesbrough.
