Santa Clarita re-elected Laurene Weste as mayor for a seventh term and paused outdoor water use for maintenance.
The Santa Clarita City Council elected Laurene Weste as mayor for a seventh term and Patsy Ayala as mayor pro tem during its December 9, 2025, reorganization meeting.
Weste, who has served on the council since 1998, succeeds outgoing Mayor Bill Miranda.
Ayala, a first-term councilmember, won the mayor pro tem role in a 3-2 vote.
The mayor’s role is largely ceremonial, with day-to-day leadership handled by City Manager Ken Striplin.
The council also announced a temporary pause on outdoor water use from December 14 to 22 due to maintenance at Castaic Lake and approved a contract for a First Responders Tribute Project.
