Ontario gas prices drop to near $1.20/litre after federal carbon tax removal and lower oil prices, though hidden fuel standards add cost.
Ontario gasoline prices are expected to drop to their lowest level since April, with an average decrease of two cents per litre by December 9, reaching about 126.9 cents per litre in the Toronto area, potentially falling below $1.20 per litre by evening.
This follows the removal of the federal carbon tax and lower global oil prices, currently around $59–$60 per barrel.
Diesel prices are also down, remaining near 147.9 cents per litre.
While low prices are expected to persist through Christmas, a "hidden" carbon cost from the Clean Fuel Standard continues to add four cents per litre to gasoline and six cents to diesel, with increases planned for January 1.
