flag Odisha tripled MLAs’ salaries and benefits, effective June 2024, with unanimous approval.

The Odisha Legislative Assembly passed four bills on December 9, 2025, approving a threefold increase in MLAs’ monthly salaries, raising the total package from ₹1.11 lakh to ₹3.45 lakh effective June 2024. The hike applies to all MLAs, ministers, the chief minister, speaker, deputy speaker, and leader of the opposition, with pensions and allowances also tripled. Ex-MLAs will receive a revised pension of ₹1.17 lakh monthly, and families of sitting MLAs who die in office will get ₹25 lakh in assistance. Future salary adjustments will be made every five years via ordinance, bypassing new legislation. The changes were unanimously approved, fulfilling a long-standing demand dating back to 2007.
