As of December 9, 2025, Missouri has confirmed five mountain lion sightings this year, including two in northeast Missouri—Scotland County on October 15 and Putnam County on March 6—both verified by cameras and physical evidence.
The other three occurred in Saline, Andrew, and Buchanan counties.
Since 1996, the state has recorded 128 confirmed sightings, with most reports ultimately identified as bobcats or large dogs.
The Missouri Department of Conservation states mountain lions have never been introduced into the state and has no plans to do so.
