Laura A. Carlson, UD’s provost and interim president, has been named the university’s 29th president, effective January 1, 2026.
The University of Delaware has named Laura A. Carlson its 29th president, effective January 1, 2026, following a comprehensive search process that included input from students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Carlson, who joined UD in 2022 as provost and served as interim president since July 2025, was selected without a national search after a leadership assessment.
A psychologist with over 25 years at the University of Notre Dame, she has championed student success, expanded academic sessions, and launched initiatives like the “Becoming OneUD” engagement campaign.
The board praised her leadership, vision for inquiry, innovation, inclusion, and trust, while student leaders commended her humility and commitment to collaboration.
