India and Brazil deepen naval ties with a new pact for submarine support and defense collaboration.
On December 10, 2025, Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi met with Brazil’s Navy Commander Admiral Marcos Sampaio Olsen in Brasilia to expand defense cooperation.
The two navies signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding with Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited to enhance maintenance, logistics, training, and research for Scorpène-class submarines and other naval vessels.
The agreement supports life-cycle support and technical collaboration, building on prior high-level talks, including a July 2025 strategic roadmap between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
The partnership emphasizes joint exercises, maritime domain awareness, classified information sharing, and a new bilateral cybersecurity dialogue, reinforcing strategic ties and stability in the Global South.
