Hendrix bandmates’ heirs sue Sony over streaming royalties, claiming unfair exclusion from profits from 1960s recordings.
The estates of Jimi Hendrix’s former bandmates, Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell, are suing Sony Music Entertainment UK over streaming royalties from the band’s 1960s albums, arguing they were excluded from revenue despite their key roles and the recordings’ ongoing profitability.
The claimants say the musicians died in relative poverty while the music generated substantial income through digital platforms, and their heirs should receive compensation for copyright and performers’ rights.
Sony counters that original contracts granted producers full rights, including future uses, and that the bandmates’ predecessors had accepted settlements and waived claims.
The High Court trial, presided over by Mr Justice Edwin Johnson, concluded on December 18, with a written judgment expected later.
