The European Union has pledged €250,000 in humanitarian aid to support over 150,000 Kenyans affected by drought, flooding, food insecurity, and disease outbreaks, including a deadly cholera outbreak in Narok County.
The funding, delivered through the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies’ Disaster Response Emergency Fund, will provide food, clean water, healthcare, cash assistance, and protection services over six months.
More than 1.8 million people are currently facing acute food insecurity, with projections showing a rise to 2.1 million by January 2026.
The aid is part of a larger €16 million EU agreement to replenish the DREF, established in 1979 to enable rapid responses to emergencies.
