A Dublin-area pharmacist was banned for fraud after fabricating records to steal from the HSE.
A former pharmacy owner in north Dublin and County Louth, John Corr, has been struck off the pharmacist register by the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland after being found guilty of systematic fraud between March and July 2016.
The PSI’s Professional Conduct Committee determined he fabricated records and prescriptions at five pharmacies, including Mell Pharmacy in Drogheda, to defraud the HSE of public funds.
Though Corr admitted wrongdoing in 2021 and repaid the HSE, he did not attend the public inquiry or submit a defense, weakening potential mitigating factors.
The misconduct, described as “infamous” and driven by greed, was deemed a serious breach of professional trust despite no formal finding on code violations due to lack of expert evidence.
Corr, 59, had previously been sentenced to 240 hours of community service in June 2021.
The PSI barred him from reapplying for five years.
