Beaumont will notify 38,411 residents about their home’s pipe material to comply with new lead rule, but water remains safe.
In mid-December 2025, Beaumont will send letters to about 38,411 residents notifying them if their water service line is lead, galvanized steel, or unknown, as required by federal and state rules.
The city is updating its inventory of pipe materials, especially in homes built before 1988, to comply with the updated Lead and Copper Rule.
Receiving a letter does not mean water is unsafe—Beaumont’s drinking water remains safe and regularly tested.
Residents can check or report their pipe type online or via a survey.
If not reported, small, non-invasive digs may be done near meters, with the area restored.
The city is also conducting twice-yearly lead and copper water sampling, and residents are encouraged to return sample bottles.
Questions can be directed to the Water Utilities Department.
