A 3-year-old boy from India, Sarwagya Singh Kushwaha, has become the youngest person ever to earn an official FIDE rating, achieving a rapid rating of 1572 at 3 years, 7 months, and 20 days old. He surpassed the previous record held by another Indian child, Anish Sarkar, by nearly a month. Kushwaha, from Madhya Pradesh, began playing chess at age two and has defeated several older, higher-rated opponents. He trains four to five hours daily and is part of India’s rising prominence in competitive chess, which recently included a 19-year-old world champion. His father says he hopes his son may one day become a grandmaster.
