Three Syrian men with Swedish passports—Anas Altahlh, Issa Al Aboud, and Mohamad Alsourani—were sentenced to three years in prison for possessing over €345,000 in cash found in a Dublin taxi after a tip.
They arrived from Denmark on a Ryanair flight, stayed in the same hotel, and were stopped on July 25, 2024, while en route to Dublin Airport.
Authorities discovered the money in two suitcases and a backpack.
The men, who have no criminal records and claim they were visiting family or seeking work, denied knowing the funds were illicit.
Judge Martin Nolan ruled they likely knew the money was criminal and were acting as couriers for reward.
The sentence was backdated to their July custody.
