North Carolina starts multi-family and workforce housing applications in 2026 using $1.4B in federal hurricane recovery funds.
North Carolina will begin accepting applications for multi-family and workforce housing programs in early 2026 as part of a $1.4 billion federal recovery effort following Hurricane Helene.
The multi-family program, funded with $191 million, will support rental units in high-cost, high-poverty areas, with projects split into small and large categories and funding from $250,000 to $15 million.
The workforce housing program, receiving $53 million, will aid homeownership for households earning up to 80% of area median income and likely have only one application round.
Both programs follow the state’s ongoing single-family housing initiative, which has received over 6,000 applications and will accept submissions until December 31, 2025.
Staffing limitations prompted the staggered rollout.
