A new report from DCU’s CREATE center reveals that 85% of Irish teachers report moderate to high work-related burnout, with unrealistic parental expectations cited as a major stressor by nearly half of those affected.
The study, based on over 1,000 teachers, also points to excessive workloads, administrative burdens, curriculum demands, and challenges supporting students with special needs as key contributors.
The Irish National Teachers’ Organisation and Teachers’ Union of Ireland are urging the government to act, calling for an independent review of workloads, smaller class sizes, and reduced administrative duties to improve retention and wellbeing.
