Veteran Indian social activist and labour leader Baba Adhav, 95, died in Pune on December 8, 2025, after a prolonged illness.
A lifelong advocate for marginalized workers like porters, rickshaw drivers, and construction laborers, he founded the Hamal Panchayat and led the 'One Village One Water Source' campaign.
Influenced by Phule, Ambedkar, and Shahu Maharaj, he remained active in social justice movements, including protests for workers’ rights and against caste oppression.
Tributes poured in from political leaders across parties, with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis calling him a pillar of reform and a key figure in Maharashtra’s progressive tradition.
His body was kept for public homage at Hamal Bhavan before cremation.
