Indian chess player Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa has won the FIDE Circuit 2025, earning a spot in the 2026 Candidates Tournament—the final step before the World Chess Championship.
The 20-year-old Grandmaster from Chennai topped the standings with 115.17 points, winning major events including the Tata Steel Masters and Superbet Chess Classic Romania.
He becomes the only Indian male to qualify for the Candidates, which will take place in March–April 2026, with the winner set to challenge reigning world champion Dommaraju Gukesh.
The final spot in the tournament will be determined by FIDE rating.
