Ghana’s government is boosting investment in data infrastructure, allocating GH¢207 million in the 2026 budget for statistical operations, including GDP rebasing and real-time economic monitoring.
Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem and Government Statistician Dr Alhasan Iddrisu stressed that reliable data is essential for effective governance and inclusive development, highlighting advances like the region’s first fully digital census and the launch of Ghana in Numbers, a new data publication.
They called for greater private sector and stakeholder collaboration to sustain data systems, citing potential returns of up to $32 for every dollar invested.
