Center Parcs gets approval for £450M Scottish village, opening 2029, creating 1,200 jobs and boosting local economy.
Center Parcs has received unanimous approval to build its first holiday village in Scotland, Center Parcs Scottish Borders, near Hawick, with construction set to begin in early 2027 and opening planned for spring 2029.
The £450 million project, on 500 acres at Huntlaw Farm, will include 700 lodges, artificial lochs, a spa, restaurants, retail spaces, and outdoor activities, creating around 1,200 permanent jobs and 750–800 construction jobs, with an estimated £75 million annual boost to the local economy.
While officials hail it as transformative for tourism and regional growth, some local residents, including the Lewis family, oppose the development, citing personal hardship, traffic concerns, and unverified economic claims.
The council approved the plan after reviewing community engagement efforts and mitigation measures.
