Assam awarded scooters to 11,250 top-performing students in 2025, continuing a long-standing merit program.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma distributed scooters to 11,250 students who scored 80% or higher in the 2025 Higher Secondary Exam, including 6,860 girls, under the Dr. Banikanta Kakati Merit Award.
The reduced number of recipients follows minor changes in the scheme’s implementation.
Since 2017-18, the state has awarded scooters to over 186,000 students, spending more than Rs.
1,043 crore.

Sarma emphasized road safety, urging license acquisition and helmet use, and promoted positive thinking.
He highlighted Assam’s rapid development, including over 25 medical colleges, 25–26 universities, nearly 30 engineering colleges, and major infrastructure projects like a Google data center, a green hydrogen plant, and a 3,200-megawatt power plant, aiming to make the state a regional energy supplier by 2031.
