Activist Jonathan Hale arrested for unpermitted crosswalks in LA, citing city's failure to act on safety despite Vision Zero pledge.
Jonathan Hale, a Los Angeles activist, was arrested for painting unpermitted crosswalks in Westwood, citing the city’s failure to address dangerous intersections despite its 2025 Vision Zero goal.
He and his group, People’s Vision Zero, have painted 14 crosswalks since May, claiming city officials ignored safety requests.
Though the LAPD cited vandalism and lack of permits, Hale said he notified Mayor Karen Bass’s office in advance.
The city maintains only authorized entities can install crosswalks, but officials said they’ve offered to collaborate.
Hale plans to appear in court January 5, continuing his push for faster, safer street improvements.
