A UK museum honors WWII pilot John Cunningham, a top ace who used radar, not night vision, to achieve 20 victories.
The de Havilland Aircraft Museum in Hertfordshire has opened a new exhibit honoring John Cunningham, a WWII RAF pilot with 20 confirmed aerial victories known as "Cats Eyes Cunningham."
His success was due to secret radar tech, not night vision.
After the war, he became de Havilland’s chief test pilot, flying key aircraft including the de Havilland Vampire jet.
He remained with the company through mergers, retiring in 1980 and passing in 2002.
The new suite, opened by his cousin Richard Spencer, features photos and memorabilia celebrating his aviation legacy.
