Tsai-Wei Hung pleaded guilty to arson and extortion after setting fire to her former landlord’s home, threatening violence, and demanding $30,000.
Tsai-Wei Hung, 33, pleaded guilty in Melbourne’s County Court to multiple charges including arson, extortion, and endangering persons after a three-month campaign of violence and threats against her former landlord, Lin Zhang, and his family.
The incidents began in March 2024 after her eviction from a Clyde North property, when she returned hours later, threw eggs, and rammed her car into a garage.
She later set fire to the home’s front door and two cars while 11 people, including children and a grandmother, were inside, shouting “go to hell” before fleeing.
After the fire was extinguished, she demanded $30,000 via text, threatening further violence.
Victims reported lasting trauma, with one child fearing being burned alive.
Prosecutors cited anger over an alleged assault by other tenants as a factor, while defense lawyers said unresolved trauma contributed.
Hung remains in custody and is set to return to court in January.
