A jury awarded Linette Nelson $19.8 million after she suffered severe complications from failed surgeries at Mayo Clinic.
An Olmsted County jury has awarded Linette Nelson $19.8 million in a medical malpractice case against Mayo Clinic and former surgeon Dr. Amy Lightner, citing negligence during surgeries in 2017–2018.
The lawsuit alleged Lightner failed to fully remove Nelson’s rectum during a second procedure, disregarded imaging showing residual tissue, and cleared her for a third surgery despite ongoing concerns.
Nelson later developed severe complications, including chronic pain, pelvic floor disorder, fibromyalgia, and PTSD, requiring additional surgeries.
The jury’s verdict, delivered after a trial, awarded the full amount to Nelson and her husband.
It remains unknown if Mayo Clinic will appeal.
