Audi launches electric SUV E7X in China, using a new logo and LiDAR, with possible EU expansion to avoid tariffs.
Audi has unveiled its new electric SUV, the E7X, developed in a joint venture with SAIC in China, adopting a typeface-only logo instead of the traditional four-ring emblem. Built on platforms shared with MG’s IM-branded models, the E7X exceeds 5 meters in length with a wheelbase over 3 meters, offering rear- and all-wheel-drive variants with up to 800Nm of torque. Battery capacity and range are not disclosed. The vehicle features LED lighting, large wheels, flush door handles, and a roof-mounted LiDAR pod. Interior details remain pending, but it is expected to follow the E5’s minimalist, screen-heavy design. The E7X will debut at the Beijing Motor Show in April and launch in China, with its nameplate already registered in Europe, suggesting possible future expansion. This aligns with Volkswagen Group’s push to exempt Chinese-built models from the EU’s 20.7% tariff, introduced in 2024, arguing such vehicles were developed before the policy took effect.
