Assam mandates history and geography for grades 6–8, approves aerospace project, new sainik school, airport land transfer, and logistics policy.
The Assam cabinet has approved making the state’s history and geography mandatory for students in classes 6 to 8, following a committee’s recommendations on Clause 6 of the 1985 Assam Accord.
The subjects will be part of the social science curriculum, each worth 50 marks.
The cabinet also approved a Rs 243 crore joint project with Dassault Systems India at Assam Engineering College for aerospace, defense, automotive, and electric vehicle courses, with construction set to begin in January.
A second sainik school will be built in Longvaku, Karbi Anglong, with 80% funding from the Union defence ministry.
Additionally, 3,000 bighas of land at Doloo Tea Estate were transferred to the Airports Authority of India for a greenfield airport, and the Assam Logistics and Warehousing Policy 2025 was cleared to boost economic growth.
