A U.S. Senate bill to end dual citizenship is still under review and does not affect Filipinos, who remain valued immigrants.
A U.S. Senate bill to end dual citizenship, the Exclusive Citizenship Act of 2025, remains a proposal with no guarantee of passage, according to the Philippine Embassy in Washington.
The embassy stressed that the bill must undergo extensive congressional review and that U.S. law, including past Supreme Court rulings, continues to recognize dual citizenship.
It urged Filipino-Americans not to renounce Philippine citizenship, calling the decision irreversible, and clarified the bill is not targeted at Filipinos, who are valued legal immigrants contributing to U.S. society.
