Tripura plans to expand its civil defence force to 1% of population, with 3,000 more volunteers to be trained by March 2026.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced plans to expand the state’s civil defence volunteer force to 1% of its population, aiming to enhance disaster preparedness.
Speaking at the 63rd All India Civil Defence and Home Guards Day in Agartala, he highlighted the program’s growth across all eight districts since 2021, following administrative changes.
Around 5,000 trained civil defence volunteers and 2,500 Apada Mitra volunteers are currently active in rescue, awareness, and emergency response.
A central government project will train 3,000 more by March 31, 2026, with funding from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Regular training occurs at central and district centers, and senior officials attended the event.
