Sydney’s Warringah Freeway upgrade, delayed to November 2026, will improve safety and access amid major traffic disruptions.
Sydney’s Warringah Freeway upgrade, a $2.08 billion project deemed twice as complex as the Eastern Distributor, is delayed by six to nine months and set for completion in November 2026.
With up to 250,000 vehicles daily, work continues while the freeway remains open, causing over 20,000 lane closures and traffic disruptions.
Key changes include “channelisation” to improve safety and a new Mount Street underpass for direct Cahill Expressway access.
The project’s final phase will occur during summer holidays.
It supports the Western Harbour Tunnel, expected to open in late 2028.
