President Asif Ali Zardari has formally appointed Allama Dr Muhammad Raghib Hussain Naeemi as chairman of Pakistan’s Council of Islamic Ideology (CII), confirming his role after he served as acting chairman since May 2024.
The appointment, made under Article 228 of the Constitution and following a recommendation from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, ensures continuity in the body that advises on the Islamic compatibility of laws.
Naeemi, also vice-chancellor of Jamia Naeemi and chairman of the Muttahida Ulema Board Punjab, was previously recognized with the Sitara-i-Imtiaz.
His reappointment comes as the CII continues to address legal and religious policy, though several council positions remain unfilled.
