Nigerian customs and drug enforcement agencies seized 25.5 kilograms of cocaine hidden aboard the Brazilian-flagged MV San Antonio at Lagos’s Apapa port.
The drugs, found in 24 parcels during an intelligence-led inspection, were discovered after the vessel docked in Lagos following stops in Honduras and Guatemala—regions linked to drug trafficking.
The Nigeria Customs Service and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) collaborated on the operation, resulting in the vessel’s detention and the handover of the narcotics to the NDLEA.
Officials reiterated a zero-tolerance policy on illicit trade, emphasizing ongoing efforts to secure ports, especially ahead of the holiday season.
This follows a separate September 2025 arrest at Murtala Muhammed Airport, where two Nigerian men were detained after ingesting drugs in Brazil, with one excreting over a kilogram of heroin and the other five wraps of cocaine.
