Jake Cyr, 34, of Greene, was arrested and initially charged with felony cruelty to animals after allegedly shooting a cat five times and throwing it 15 feet in late November 2025.
The cat, later identified as belonging to deceased Lewiston animal control officer Wendell Strout, had multiple gunshot wounds and signs of prior injury.
Animal Control Officer Rich Burton responded to a report, heard gunshots, and confronted Cyr, who denied involvement but later led authorities to the body.
The felony charge was downgraded to a misdemeanor after arrest.
The circumstances of the cat’s initial injury remain under investigation.
