Yemen handed 26 Houthi fighters' bodies to the group ahead of UN peace talks, under ICRC and mediator oversight.
Yemen’s government transferred 26 bodies of Houthi fighters to the group on Friday, following verification by a local mediator and under ICRC supervision, as a goodwill gesture ahead of upcoming UN-sponsored peace talks.
The remains, killed in recent clashes in Marib and al-Jawf, were handed over to support negotiations on detainees, abductees, and forcibly disappeared persons.
The move follows previous prisoner exchanges in 2020 and 2023 and comes after a recent mediation meeting in Muscat hosted by Oman.
The Houthis have not commented.
Despite a 2022 truce reducing frontline fighting, a comprehensive political solution remains elusive in Yemen’s ongoing civil war.
