Yangchen Lachungpa, a 44-year-old woman wanted internationally on an Interpol Red Notice, was arrested on December 2, 2025, in Lachung, North Sikkim, in a joint operation by the Madhya Pradesh State Tiger Strike Force and Wildlife Crime Control Bureau.
She is accused of playing a central role in a transnational wildlife trafficking network involving tiger parts and pangolin scales across Nepal, Tibet, Bhutan, and Indian cities including Delhi and Kolkata.
The arrest followed a Red Notice issued on October 2, 2025, after she evaded justice since violating bail in a 2017 case tied to a 2015 poaching ring in Satpura Tiger Reserve.
A co-accused confessed she provided shelter and received contraband.
After a court appearance in Gangtok, bail was denied and she was remanded for transfer to Narmadapuram, Madhya Pradesh, where further legal proceedings will occur.
Of 36 individuals linked to the case, 27 were previously convicted.
