Scottish Conservative peer Lord Offord defects to Reform UK, resigning to challenge SNP rule in upcoming Holyrood election.
Lord Malcolm Offord, a Scottish Conservative life peer, has defected to Reform UK and will stand in the upcoming Scottish Parliament election, resigning from the House of Lords to campaign full-time.
He criticized the Conservative Party for abandoning Scotland, calling it parochial and lacking vision, and aims to end the SNP’s 18-year rule.
Reform UK leader Nigel Farage welcomed the move as “brave and historic.” Offord, a former Scotland Office minister and 2021 Holyrood candidate, previously donated nearly £150,000 to the Conservatives.
He supported claims that one in three Glasgow schoolchildren do not speak English as a first language, rejecting accusations of a “dog whistle.” His defection follows other Tory exits to Reform UK in Scotland, including MSP Graham Simpson.
